The Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Kazakhstan has defined its development priorities in the context of digital transformation.

On 9 October 2025, the regular session of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Kazakhstan (AS HSK) took place, dedicated to defining the key areas of the Academy’s activities in light of the implementation of the Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the people of Kazakhstan of 8 September 2025, “Kazakhstan in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Current Challenges and Their Solutions through Digital Transformation”.

The session was attended by the Chairman of the Presidium of AS HSK, Academician Dossym Suleyev, the President of AS HSK, Academician Galym Mutanov, members of the Presidium, and more than 60 academicians and corresponding members of the Academy, including 10 rectors of the country’s leading universities. The meeting was held in a hybrid format at the Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University.

The Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Kazakhstan expresses its sincere gratitude to the university’s rector Meiram Begentayev and the university staff for the high level of organisation and assistance in holding the session.

The keynote report was delivered by the President of AS HSK, Academician Galym Mutanov. In his speech he summarised the implementation of previously set objectives, presented the Academy’s main achievements and outlined the priority areas of its activities for the coming period. Particular attention was paid to introducing modern IT technologies and digital solutions developed by the Academy’s scientists into the system of higher education and science.

Following the discussion, the session participants gave a positive assessment of the results of AS HSK’s work and confirmed the Academy’s commitment to the advanced development of higher education, the improvement of the quality assurance system and the formation of a common educational space of Central Asia.

One of the important decisions of the session was support for the implementation of the provisions of the Almaty Agreement concluded by public-professional organisations of the Central Asian countries together with leading European organisations in the field of higher education quality assurance — ENAEE, ENQA and EQAR. The participants confirmed the need for the further development of the Central Asian Federation for Quality Assurance in Education (CAF) and the formation under it of the Central Asian Register of Accredited Educational Programmes — a regional register of education quality that will become an important instrument for the mutual recognition of education quality and the expansion of academic mobility.

In accordance with the Academy’s Charter, elections of new full members (academicians) and corresponding members of AS HSK were also held at the session. Following a secret ballot, the Presidium of the Academy approved 11 new academicians from among the corresponding members out of 15 candidates, and elected 15 new corresponding members out of 25 candidates.

Another significant event was the summing up of the competition for the honorary title “Honoured Worker of the Higher School of Kazakhstan”. Thirty-two representatives of the teaching staff of the country’s universities took part in the competition. Based on the voting results, the Presidium of AS HSK approved 17 laureates who have made a significant contribution to the development of higher education and science in Kazakhstan.

Following the session, a Resolution was adopted defining the Academy’s strategic objectives for the coming period. The implementation of the adopted decisions will help consolidate the potential of universities, research organisations and the public-professional community in order to successfully fulfil the tasks set by the Head of State in the field of science, higher education and the country’s digital transformation.
